KPSC Gazetted Probationers Qualification

As per Rule 7 of the Karnataka Recruitment of Gazetted Probationers (Appointment by Competitive Examinations) Rules, 1997 (as amended by the 8th Amendment Rules, 2010), no candidate is eligible for recruitment under these rules unless they possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree awarded by a University established by law in India, or an equivalent qualification.

Candidates who have appeared for an examination that would render them educationally qualified, but whose results have not yet been declared, are also eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination; however, they must produce proof of passing the qualifying examination along with their Main Examination application, failing which they will not be admitted to the Main Examination. Candidates who have passed their final professional/medical examination but not completed internship at the time of application are provisionally admitted, subject to submitting the required proof at the time of interview.

The notification does not specify a separate, distinct educational qualification for each of the 18 individual posts beyond this general Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree requirement under the Gazetted Probationers Rules, 1997.

As per Government Order No. ಸಕಇ 262 ಪಿಆರಇ 2025, dated 29-01-2026, candidates belonging to all categories covered under the above age-limit rules are entitled to a further one-time additional relaxation of 5 years in the maximum age limit for this recruitment.

Additional age relaxation is also available as follows: Ex-servicemen get relaxation equal to their length of military service plus 3 years (subject to conditions); Persons with Disabilities get 10 years’ relaxation; and candidates who are widowed/divorced and have not remarried get 10 years’ relaxation, subject to the conditions specified in the notification.

KPSC Gazetted Probationers Selection Process

Selection for the Gazetted Probationers posts under this notification follows a two-stage process as prescribed under the Gazetted Probationers Rules, 1997: a Preliminary Examination, followed by a Main Examination and Personality Test (interview) for candidates who qualify.

Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is objective type (multiple choice) and consists of two papers, each of 200 marks and 2 hours’ duration (400 marks total). It is a screening test only; marks scored in the Preliminary Examination are not counted towards the final merit.

There is negative marking of 0.25 marks (one-fourth) for every wrong answer in the Preliminary Examination. Candidates are admitted to the Main Examination in a ratio of 1:15 against notified vacancies, in order of merit, subject to category-wise representation.

Marks in the Kannada and English qualifying papers are not counted towards merit, but candidates must score a minimum of 35% (52.5 marks) in each to qualify for the Personality Test; those who do not meet this minimum are not evaluated in the other papers. All Main Examination papers can be answered entirely in Kannada or English (except the qualifying papers) and are of degree-level standard. Candidates are called for the Personality Test in a ratio of 1:3 against notified vacancies, based on Main Examination merit, and the Personality Test carries a maximum of 25 marks.

Eligible candidates can apply online for KPSC Gazetted Probationers Recruitment 2026 by following the steps below.

  1. Visit the official KPSC website: kpsconline.karnataka.gov.in
  2. If applying for the first time, complete the One Time Registration (OTR) by entering all personal details step by step and submitting them; OTR details, once submitted, cannot be edited later.
  3. Log in to the applicant portal using your Enrollment Number/Mobile Number/Email ID and OTP.
  4. Go to the “Apply to Post” tab, select this notification, and review the eligibility conditions/instructions displayed.
  5. Complete the post-specific application form using the details carried over from your OTR profile.
  6. Click “Pay Now” and complete the application fee payment via UPI, Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking.

KPSC Gazetted Probationers Important Instructions

  • Candidates can apply through the official KPSC website only; applications through any other website will not be accepted.
  • Only one application per post/category combination will be accepted; if a candidate submits more than one application for the same post, only the first valid registration will be considered and subsequent ones will be rejected.
