  • Appearing in Court on time to contest cases for the SPMCIL Corporate Office is mandatory. Missing a court case without a reasonable ground and advance notice will not be accepted.
  • Refusing any work without a reasonable cause may lead to removal from the panel at once, without waiting for the empanelment period to end. Conflict of interest is given as an example of a reasonable cause.
  • Accept the terms and conditions of empanelment as SPMCIL decides them from time to time.
  • Report the status of cases to the SPMCIL Corporate Office every month.
  • If needed, also represent and defend SPMCIL’s Corporate Office, its other Units and/or the Union of India/Ministry of Finance in the same case. No extra fee is paid for this.

  • After the order/judgment, give an opinion within three days of receiving the certified copy. The opinion must give the reasons for any adverse order and advise on whether to file an appeal.

Selection Process

Selection for the SPMCIL panel has two stages: shortlisting of the applications, then an interaction before the interaction/empanelment Committee.

Shortlisting

SPMCIL considers the following when it reviews applications:

  • Length of practice and specialization in the area of law.
  • Proper and adequate infrastructure, such as office premises and the number of associate Advocates/assistants.
  • Track record and integrity of the Advocate.

Only applicants who meet the eligibility conditions and are shortlisted will be called for the interaction. Meeting the eligibility criteria alone gives no right to be called for the interaction or to be empanelled. SPMCIL reserves the right to decide whom to shortlist for the interaction and empanelment, based on its requirement and the number of applications received.
