Where and How to Send

Candidates must fill out the application form in physical form and submit the same to the Establishment Branch, MHI-32, Chandigarh within two weeks from the date of uploading the advertisement on the GMCH website (submission deadline: 30 October 2026). No application shall be entertained after the stipulated period.

Posts, Eligibility and Pay

Essential Qualification:

• A basic university or equivalent qualification included in any one of the schedules to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956) and must be registered in a State Medical register of Indian Medical register UNDER THE State/Central Medical Registration Act.
• MD Psychiatry or DNB Psychiatry.

Experience Required:

• Desirable 2 years experience of working as a Psychiatrist in a Hospital.

Age Limit:

• The upper age limit for the post of Consultant Psychiatrist on contract basis is not exceeding 40 years as on 01.10.2026.

Enclosures

• Two copies of recent passport size photographs with one photograph pasted on the Application Form along with application fee, self attested copies of certificates and testimonials in proof of educational qualifications, degree, Registration, date of birth, experience, caste certificate, UDID Certificate etc.
• Attested copies of Caste/Community certificate in the prescribed format in case of candidate belonging to OBC category with non-creamy layer clause.

Selection Process

The selection process involves the following stages:

• Scrutiny of Applications: After scrutiny of the applications, the walk-in interview will be conducted.
• Walk-in Interview: The date and time of the interview will be decided in consultation with SMER, Chandigarh, Chairperson of the Selection Committee, and communicated to eligible candidates through email. No separate letter for walk-in interview will be sent.

• The above said post is purely temporary in nature and will be filled up on Contract basis initially, for a period of one year which may be extendable on yearly basis subject to performance of work and conduct of the Consultant Psychiatrist.
• All Medical / Non Medical Teachers must possess a basic University or equivalent qualifications included in the Schedules to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. They should also be registered under the State / Central Medical Registration Act.
• No Travelling Allowance/Daily Allowance/Conveyance Allowance will be paid to the candidates, who appear for the walk-in interview.
• The department reserves the right to reject/cancel any application or withdraw the post at any time without assigning any reasons or without any notice whatsoever.
• The candidates who have earlier worked in this institute and their services were dispensed with on account of misconduct or otherwise by this Institute are not eligible to apply against this post.
• The post is to be filled up on whole time basis and private practice of any kind is prohibited.
• Incomplete/unsigned application and application received without fee, photograph, self attested copies of required certificates such as educational qualifications, experience, age, caste/community certificate/UDID certificate etc will be summarily rejected without any communication to the candidate.
• SC candidates applying for un-reserved post are not entitled to any relaxation in upper age limit.
